Ammara Aqeel

I am a Ph.D. student in the Molecular Genetics and Microbiology program (MGM). I joined the David Lab in 2021. Originally from Pakistan, I came to Duke University in 2015 and graduated with a B.S. in Biology and certificate in Science and Society in 2019.

My undergraduate research focused on the development of high-throughput approaches to combat microbial antibiotic resistance. I joined the David lab to learn more about the interaction of nutrition, health and the gut microbiome. My current research revolves around novel DNA based dietary assessment in children and adolescents and the clinical impact of these findings.

Outside of the lab, I love all things nature and art, particularly long walks during Fall and doing henna.  I also love chatting with friends and family over strong Pakistani tea!
