Project Download Study in the David Lab

The David Lab is excited to announce that we beginning recruitment for our Project Download Study. If you would like more information, please email our study team at projectdownload@duke.edu.

About the Study

This study is designed to test an electronic device that has been developed to help hospital workers measure patient’s fluid output. Monitoring patient fluid output from the renal system (urine) and gastrointestinal tract (stool) is often an essential clinical task, with implications for a diverse number of diagnoses and treatments. However, patient fluid output tracking is often regarded as tedious and messy for hospital staff. We are working to develop an alternative electronic device built into a toilet seat and footrest that can ultimately be used in the hospital to track the volume and characteristics of patient urine and stool events, as well as the weight of the person using the toilet.  This will save time for hospital staff and will potentially improve patient care.

This study will enroll 48 participants (24 male and 24 women) for a period of approximately up to 6 weeks over a 3-month period. These weeks will not be consecutive.

Participants will be compensated for their time on the study. We are currently limited to participants that are affiliated with Duke and are able to use the private bathroom at no risk to themselves in room 4001T3, 4th floor of MSRB3.
