Chewing and the Microbiome

The David Lab at Duke University is looking for healthy adult volunteers to participate in research exploring the effects of chewing variation on the gut microbiome.

The study is three weeks long (one week ‘pre-study’ then two consecutive study weeks). One week will consist of following your typical eating habits, and the other will involve increased chewing. Participants will complete three dietary surveys and provide six stool samples (three per week).

This study is compensated, up to $100. Additionally, all participants will have the option to receive an interactive report of gut microbiome data.

Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old, be able to collect stool samples at no personal risk, have no underlying gastrointestinal (GI) issues, and have no dental or other issues that could impair ability to chew.

If you are interested in participating, or finding out more information, please email a member of our study team at Chewing@Duke.edu.
